STEAM Approach
Arab International Academy adopts the STEAM approach (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) so that students integrate and apply scientific and mathematical knowledge to find technological solutions to real-world problems using engineering and design methods. This approach is consistent with the belief that students should be the center of the teaching and learning process, and that learning happens best when the student is engaged in the implementation of meaningful activities. With STEAM, students conduct projects and practical activities, which help them to develop inquiry skills and to link scientific knowledge to practical reality. Students are also introduced to engineering by using scientific methods to develop technological solutions. The use of this approach in education is not only limited to learning science, technology, engineering, and mathematics but also expands to the arts. The arts have a significant impact on the development of the imagination of students and their ability to be creative and to think unconventionally. Educators agree that these skills are essential in navigating real-life situations.
In further support of the arts, AIA offers a wide range of courses such as performing arts, including drama, music, and creative writing. Also, we offer visual arts, which includes painting at the Elementary School. In addition, all teachers at AIA are encouraged to integrate the arts into their instruction to provide students with an opportunity to develop self-confidence and to find their voice.
Furthermore, At AIA, we believe in the importance of technology in the creation of a dynamic teaching and learning environment. We also believe that digital fluency and citizenship are important aspects of the academic and professional success of all students. Therefore, we provide quality hardware and a high-speed internet connection to enable the school community to fully access and leverage online content and communities. We also provide our teaching staff with continuous training regarding the strategies for seamless integration of all aspects of technology in their classrooms, so that students’ learning experiences are enhanced and expanded.
